Chauvet and other companies sell relatively cheap color-changing LED tube lights ($100 for 1m with 4-6 segments). The controller for the lights has a DMX512 interface but you can only select between pre-programmed sequences. I would like to reverse engineer the control protocol so that a microcontroller like the Arduino can be used to control the tubes in custom patterns.
