Climbot was created as an aid to carry small objects up ladders. What your probably asking is: Why would you want to carry objects up a ladder? The answer is simple:

“More than 2.1 million individuals were treated in U.S. emergency departments for ladder-related injuries from 1990 through 2005, according to a study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.”

Ladders are one of the leading causes of workplace injuries, so the less you have to climb them the less injuries there will be. Lets say you want to send a small tool up a ladder, climbot does the job for you.

Here is an early prototype, but it proved inefficient as it wasnt very reliable, it didnt grasp the ladder good enough and there was too much friction causing it to go too slow, or not be able to go up at all.
